£17m boost for the A55 is vital to North Wales economy
A £17m investment boost to improve the resilience and safety of the A55’s three tunnels is vital to the economy of the North Wales coast, says Labour AM, Ann Jones.
The Vale of Clwyd AM, has welcomed the extra investment in the Conwy, Penmaenbach and Pen y Clip tunnels over a two year period.
The Welsh Government had already invested £25m to improve the Conwy Tunnel, which marked its 20th anniversary last year, and the additional funding will allow further works to improve its infrastructure and resilience to be accelerated.
Mrs Jones said: “The A55 is the economic artery of North Wales. When accidents occur, not only does it cause frustration for motorists – it costs businesses money.
“The economic recovery is still fragile and we must do all we can within our constrained budgets to make sure we do everything we can to support businesses in North Wales.
“I have lobbied colleagues in Cardiff over many years to continue to invest in the A55. I’m thrilled that the Welsh Government sees just how vital these upgrades are to our economy”.
