£44m rail scheme to improve North-South journey times is excellent news for North Wales

Vale of Clwyd AM, Ann Jones has warmly welcomed an announcement made by the Transport Minister, Edwina Hart, of a new £44m scheme to improve North-South rail journey times and increase capacity between Wrexham and Chester.

Following a review, a £44m scheme has been agreed with Network Rail to be delivered by spring 2015. The revised scheme will involve a significant doubling of the existing single line between Wrexham and Chester and line speed improvements. This will reduce north south journey times by 16 minutes.

Mrs Jones said: “This is excellent news for all those of living in North Wales. Businesses and commuters have been consistently saying that long journey times put a significant pressure on them, and any movement in the right direction is to be welcomed.

“It will ensure more people in North East Wales will be able to benefit from the improved rail links to the rest of Wales.

“I’m very proud that the Welsh Labour Government is continuing to deliver on its pledges to improve transport links in North Wales”.
