£5 million for flood schemes in Conwy and Denbighshire
Labour AM for the Vale of Clwyd Ann Jones has praised the Welsh Labour Government’s announcement that £5 million has been earmarked for flood and coastal risk management schemes in Conwy and Denbighshire.
The announcement for further capital investment in flood and coastal risk management schemes in Conwy and Denbighshire is part as part of £91.5 million capital investment programme for other projects including; housing, education, transport and health.
Jane Hutt, the Welsh Labour Government’s Finance Minister, announced that the investment would also fund a smaller number of Environment Agency schemes across Wales.
Ann Jones said:
“The flooding we witnessed recently was unprecedented and the chaos and devastation it caused was heart-breaking. Again, my sincerest thanks go to the emergency services and local volunteers who worked round the clock to help all of those affected.
“As families and business re-build and try and get back to normal, it’s important that we do everything in our power to make sure that this event is not repeated. That’s why I welcome this additional investment from the Welsh Labour Government in local flood and coastal risk management schemes.
“This investment comes in the most challenging economic times for Wales, given the massive real-terms cuts to our budgets; we’ve taken the decision to invest in areas where it has the biggest impact.”
