AM attends opening of Unison’s North Wales Health Branch Office

Vale of Clwyd AM, Ann Jones, has attended the opening of the new offices of Unison’s North Wales health branch.

Mrs Jones, herself a proud Unison member, took a tour of the new centre which includes offices, a conference suite and interview rooms. Mrs Jones was also able to see the important work that Unison does to protect its members in the workplace and spoke to staff from Ysbyty Glan Clwyd about some of the challenges they are facing at work.

Speaking at the event, Mrs Jones said: “Trade unions do a very important job at ensuring fair play at work. It is important that members have an accessible office at which they can seek advice if they have problems at work”.

Jan Tomlinson, UNISON Branch Secretary, said: “The branch is really excited about the opening of our new centre. It’s been a long time coming but it’s fair to say that the results have been worth the wait.
“The branch has a new energy about it since the move from our old office situation. We all feel revitalised.

“The move is also going to be extremely positive for our members. The centre offers our members a safe haven – it is situated in a remote area that is free from any prying eyes.

“We believe that this will give our members the confidence to be able to raise any private or sensitive issues with us. In the wake of the Francis report, we believe that this can only be considered to be a good thing.

“Ultimately we want our members to feel able and willing to access our support confidentially and without fear. With this in mind, this new centre will be an asset not only to our members, but to the health board and the local community.”
