AM calls for drastic action to “sort out” local health board

Speaking during the urgent debate on the Tawel Fan scandal at the Assembly, Labour AM for the Vale of Clwyd, Ann Jones has called for urgent drastic action to be taken to “sort out” the Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board including a call for the Welsh Government to immediately place the Board into special measures for its long line of serious governance failings.

Ms Jones said: “I no longer have any confidence that the Betsi Cadwaladr health board in its current configuration can deliver the health services that the people of North Wales deserve. We need urgent action to sort out the mess that senior managers have presided over. The Board needs to be immediately placed into special measures.

“The Tawel Fan scandal is extremely shocking and has caused so much hurt to so many people. Notwithstanding this, other issues have raised so many other governance concerns that I see no way that the Board can address the litany of problems it needs urgent solutions to.

“It’s time that urgent attention is paid to ensuring that North Wales has a first class health service and the Welsh Government must show some leadership”.
