AM encourages patients to learn about the health service in North Wales

Vale of Clwyd AM, Ann Jones has welcomed the launch of the “My Local Health Service” website which will provide patients across North Wales with the facts about the performance of the health service in North Wales.

The site uses intuitive graphs and charts and detailed explanations to present NHS Wales quality and safety data from health boards, hospitals and primary care. Mrs Jones is encouraging her constituents to access the site in order to find out how services in North Wales are performing.

Mrs Jones said: “It is critical that patients feel clued up about what is going on in our hospitals. This new website will give patients the facts and allow them to make up their own minds about how the health service is performing.

“This transparent website is about putting patients in control of scrutinising health services in North Wales”.

Starting this week with an initial set of health board data, the content will be rapidly developed to include individual hospitals and General Practices. By presenting both the data and the explanatory narrative, the site goes further than ever before to provide genuine insight into NHS performance, so that the public are informed and are able to prompt and recognise improvement.

This website is similar to the successful My Local School website and results from the work of the Transparency and Mortality Taskforce, chaired by the Deputy Chief Medical Officer. The establishment of the website is part of the Welsh Government’s response to the Francis Report into poor medical care at the Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust.
