AM welcomes decision to keep neonatal care at Glan Clwyd
Labour AM for the Vale of Clwyd, Ann Jones, has welcomed the decision made by the First Minister to establish the North Wales Sub Regional Intensive Neonatal Care Centre at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
Ms Jones said: “I am delighted with the announcement made by the First Minister, Carwyn Jones that the neonatal intensive care unit will be at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd. This is the right decision and is a very important one for our area and for all those families who will need to use these specialist services.
“I am especially grateful to the First Minister for commissioning the independent review following Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board’s announcement to move this vital service to Arrowe Park hospital on the Wirral.
“We now need to ensure that this centre is operational as soon as practical”.
Communities across Denbighshire were very concerned when the neonatal care centre was moved to Arrowe Park and Ms Jones has been working alongside the community ever since, to put pressure on the health board and the Welsh Government to ensure that a specific special baby care unit would return to Glan Clwyd as soon as possible.
Ms Jones pressed upon the First Minister and the Health Minister the need for any decisions to be decided an independent, clinically led expert review panel. The Panel has confirmed that basing the centre in Glan Clwyd not only made sense for the community but also clinically.
