Ann fights for St Asaph in the Senedd Chamber

Local AM, Ann Jones has questioned the First Minister over what the Welsh Government is doing to support St Asaph residents affected by flooding.

Over the summer, Mrs Jones has been working with Welsh Government officials and Natural Resources Wales to discuss what can be done to solve on-going issues such as insurance and improving flood defences. Mrs Jones also welcomed Alun Davies, Minister for Natural Resources to St Asaph to meet with residents and walk the river bank to show him first hand the issues still affecting residents.

Speaking in the Chamber, Mrs Jones asked the First Minister to provide an update on work being done by the Welsh Government.

In response, the First Minister said his Government was working on a new agreement with the insurance industry.

Following the First Minister’s response, Mrs Jones said: “I’m pleased by the action taken so far by the Welsh Government and Natural Resources Wales. A lot more must be done to ensure that residents feel safe and secure in their own homes.

“The First Minister’s statement has reassured me that the Welsh Government regards helping my constituents in St Asaph as a matter of priority”.

Last November, following days of heavy rain, hundreds of properties in St Asaph were flooded when the River Elwy burst its banks. Hundreds of homes had to be evacuated with many people being moved into temporary accommodation while their properties dried out
