Ann supports Dementia Awareness Week

Labour AM for the Vale of Clwyd, Ann Jones, is lending her support to Dementia Awareness Week.

Research by the Alzheimer’s Society shows that there are 800,000 people with dementia in the UK, and this number is set to rise to one million by 2021.

Ann said: “One in three people over the age of 65 will die with dementia and it is important that there are support networks available to prevent sufferers feeling cut off from society, as is sadly too common.

“Dementia Awareness Week will hopefully help educate the public about this increasingly common disease and I am very pleased to give it my full support.”

The theme of 2013’s Week encourages people to talk about dementia in order to break down barriers and allow families to plan how they will deal with dementia together.

Ann also said: “It’s important that people talk to their families about dementia to ensure that sufferers are able to keep control of their lives and continue to live how they want to”.
