Ann Welcomes Credit Union’s Round the Clock Banking

Labour AM for the Vale of Clwyd Ann Jones has welcomed that Credit Union members across North Wales can now bank securely online thanks to a new website launched by North Wales Credit Union.

With £7,000 support from the Labour Welsh Government Communities 2.0 digital inclusion project, the website offers round the clock access for Credit Union current account customers who wish to manage their money online.

The easy-to-navigate site also offers a handy ‘loan calculator’ that allows members to see how much they can afford to borrow, and what it would cost to repay over a time frame that suits them.

Ann Jones welcomed the Local Government and Communities Minister Carl Sargeant’s backing for the new service and the significant part that it will play in the Welsh Government’s top priority of tackling poverty.

Ann Jones said:

“The new website, which was created with huge support from the Labour Welsh Government, is really easy to use and lays out information on your finances in a simple and straight-forward way.

“This action means that credit unions offer a more accessible service and it’s hoped that it will help people to move away from loan sharks and payday loan companies who have been known to charge extortionate rates of interest, sometimes in excess of 1,000% APR.”

Local Government and Communities Minister, Carl Sargeant AM said:

“The new website links to lots of really useful information such as the Money Advice Service’s website about managing your money. It takes just ten minutes to answer a few straightforward questions and get a personal action plan that identifies three key things you can do to make the most of your money.”
