Vale of Clwyd Assembly Member signs Book of Commitment, Marking Holocaust Memorial Day 2017

Vale of Clwyd Assembly Member, Ann Jones, marked this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day by signing the Holocaust Education Trust (HET) Book of Commitment at the National Assembly on Tuesday this week.

This year’s Holocaust Memorial Day marks 72 years since the Red Army liberated the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp on January 27, 1945.

Holocaust Memorial Day is a time for reflection and to remember the millions of innocent people murdered by the Nazi regime as well as those who lost their lives in later genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

Ann Jones AM said: “It is vital that we never forget the lessons of the Auschwitz. We must never forget those who fell victim to the Nazi genocide and others that have been carried out across the world.

The Holocaust is a warning from history. It is a warning about what happens when hatred is allowed to fester and grow and we should always be vigilant and wary so that we ensure it is never repeated. It is the responsibility of all us to challenge hatred, bigotry and prejudice wherever we find it, and in whatever form we find it.

By signing the HET’s Book of Commitment today, I am showing a small signal of my solidarity with those who have suffered and continue to suffer at the hands of barbarous regimes and cruel creeds. I encourage all those who believe in fighting against prejudice, discrimination and oppression to stand with me and sign up to the HET’s Book of Commitment themselves.”
