AM receives coveted ‘Special Fire Award’
Labour AM for the Vale of Clwyd Ann Jones has accepted the coveted ‘Special Fire Award’ from the Association of Building Engineers in recognition of her contribution to fire safety.
Speaking at the Association of Building Engineers 2012 Conference taking place in Chesham, Buckinghamshire on 8-10 November, Mrs Jones spoke of how Wales will be the first country in the World to start fitting all new homes with sprinklers.
The conference brings together key industry leaders and professionals who specialise in the design, construction, evaluation and maintenance of building construction.
Ann Jones said:
“I am honoured to have been given this award by the Association of Building Engineers, an organisation that wants to see a built environment that is both safe and sustainable – that means introducing sprinklers.
“It was only recently that I congratulated construction firm bosses from Derby who will from now on ‘strongly recommend’ that customers have sprinklers fitted in their homes; showing that Wales is an inspiration for others around the UK and across Europe.
“I am encouraged by the continued leadership shown by the First Minister, this law will be a lasting legacy of the Welsh Labour Government and I look forward to being there to see the first sprinkler being fitted.”
