Ann exposes Tory council tax hypocrisy
Tory hypocrisy on Council Tax exposed – “Do as I say, not as I do”.
The Conservative Shadow Minister for Local Government has been branded a hypocrite after calling for a council tax freeze across Wales, despite voting through council tax rises when she was a council cabinet member.
Aberconwy AM Janet Finch-Saunders, who served in the Cabinet of Conwy County Borough Council between 2004-2008, voted every single year to raise council tax. In her first year, council tax was raised 7.4% and then by 5% for the next three years.
The figures were revealed by Vale of Clwyd AM Ann Jones AM in a Senedd debate on council tax in which Ms Finch Saunders claimed she was “…looking to the Welsh Government to take our homeowners out of the vicious spiral of increasing tax bills. “
Welsh Labour’s Ann Jones AM said:
“This is some of the most astonishing hypocrisy I’ve ever witnessed from an Assembly Member, in my 14 years of representing the Vale of Clwyd.
“It is disgraceful that Janet Finch-Saunders has the audacity to lecture the Welsh Labour Government about council tax rises when she herself was responsible for hikes across Conwy when she was a cabinet member.
“I am never one to shy away from constructive criticism but the Aberconwy member’s comments are simply laughable given her past actions. It is important voters across Wales are not hoodwinked by the Welsh Conservatives. This is a classic example of say one thing and do another.”
