Ann Jones AM at first Diversity Confident Employer Conference

Labour AM for the Vale of Clwyd, Ann Jones has delivered a key note address and has presented five recipients with a ‘Diversity Confident Employer Award’ at Denbighshire County Council’s first Diversity Confident Employer Conference.

The conference, held on Monday 10th December at The Scala in Prestatyn, is to raise employers’ Equality & Diversity awareness and provide them with the opportunity to meet other employers.

Attendees were able to learn what services are available to support them in employing a more diverse workforce from organisations such as Access to Work, SCOPE, NEWCIS, Stonewall, MENCAP Pengwern College, North Wales Regional Equality Network, Fit For Work Service and Chwarae Teg.

Denbighshire County Council has developed a set of Diversity Confident Employer Recognition Standards which provides employers with a baseline to work towards. A small number of employers have already been assessed against these standards, which saw a number of employers being awarded the ‘Diversity Confident Employer Award’ at the Conference.

Organisations attending include: North Wales Police, Wales & West Housing, TRB Ltd, Dial A Ride, Menterabusnes, SCOPE, Carenza Care, Rhyl Create, CEMC and Denbighshire Enterprise Agency.

Ann Jones said:

“It was a real privilege to talk to employers from right across North Wales who want to make progress and employ a diverse, vibrant and dynamic workforce.

“It was especially important to recognise the efforts and achievements of employers who have already been assessed against the new standards. I hope more people step up to the plate and work towards these new voluntary guidelines.

“I am especially grateful to all of the organisations who’ve made this conference a success and also to The Scala in Prestatyn for hosting us. I am sure this was the first of many successful conferences.”
