Ann marks International Day Against Homophobia
Ann Jones, Labour AM for Vale of Clwyd, has marked International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) by calling for a full stop to homophobia in Wales.
Joined by AMs from all three opposition parties, Ann has tabled a Statement of Opinion at the National Assembly in support of all measures to tackle to homophobia.
Ann said: “Discrimination of any kind has no place in modern day Wales. Homophobia is still far too prevalent in society.
Recent EU research showed which found that 26% of LGB people had been physically attacked or threatened with violence in the past five years. The research also found that the rate was significantly higher for transgender people (35%).
Ann also said: “I support any measures that bring about greater equality for LGBT people such as the Same Sex Marriage Bill set to be debated in the House of Commons this week”.
IDAHO Day marks the anniversary where the United Nations ceased to recognise homosexuality as a mental illness.
