Revamp of Rhyl station underway thanks to funding boost from Welsh Government
Labour AM for the Vale of Clwyd, Ann Jones has warmly welcomed a Welsh Government grant that will enable extensive refurbishment work to take place at Rhyl railway station.
The money, comes £17m from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), will be used to improve customer facilities, access, capacity and park and ride spaces at a number of Welsh stations. The Welsh Labour Government will contribute £5.1m to the scheme. The work announced is part of a wider £39m programme, with £21m ERDF backing, to improve rail stations across Wales.
Mrs Jones said: “I’m thrilled that the much needed work is starting. Our infrastructure is essential to the economic recovery of north Wales.
“Trains are a vital service for many people to access jobs and services. We want to make our rail stations accessible to all and ensure a pleasant experience for passengers.
“The announcement also shows just how important our strong links with Europe are. Using EU funds, today’s announcement will keep delivering a modern, accessible and affordable rail system for Wales”.
