‘Take time to think of those who will be working this Christmas’
Labour AM for the Vale of Clwyd, Ann Jones is reminding constituents to take time to think of those who will be working this Christmas, often away from their family.
The call from the Vale of Clwyd Assembly Member comes as many people right across the community are rightly excited and preparing for the festive period. But this is not the reality for everyone, as the emergency services, armed forces, doctors, nurses, road gritters, shopworkers and others face the prospect of a Christmas at work.
Mrs Jones has backed USDAW, the shopworkers’ trade union, annual Respect for Shopworkers campaign. They are also reminding customers to ‘Keep Your Cool at Christmas’, a time when incidents of violence and abuse against shopworkers tend to increase.
Ann Jones said:
“Whilst much of the community is rightly excited and preparing for the festive season, we should make sure that we take time to think of those who will be working this Christmas, often away from their families.
“Whether pausing to think of those serving in the armed forces, both at home and abroad, or recognising that the emergency services will remain on call to keep us safe and out of harm’s way or simply keeping cool this Christmas and saying ‘thank you’ to shopworkers as we go about our last minute shopping – it’s important to take time to think of others.”
